After a hearty breakfast at 7.30, we set off to play Langa, usually an extremely fit side. Playing on a very large pitch, the 'A' team dominated the first half and were unlucky to concede a breakaway try on the edge of half time. A try straight after half time restored the balance but as the match continued, Langa's superior fitness showed and they were able to score on a number of occasions from turn over ball. The final score was 31-15 to Langa. The B team then went on to play and again found the speed of the game very difficult to handle. However, slowly but surely, they forced their way into the game by playing a very tight game. The final score was 37-22.
After the game we were treated to lunch at a shebeen with the owner givign an entertaining explanation of how to greet people in Xhosa.
We then had an african band entertain with us. They were also brave enough to let the boys have a go as well.
We then went on a tour of the township, making a number of new friends.
In the evening we had the first round of the paired bowling competition followed by a pizza. Those still not satiated then went down to the Waterfront for an icecream.
Love the shirts. Not missing a lot here cold wet and generally miserable Easter Weekend.
ReplyDeleteSeconded on weather in the UK...it's 'orrible. Great photos Gavin, and many thanks for the updates: the customers for the mixed grill on Night One might have been predicted in advance.
